Home Repair Update for 7/10/17 – 7/15/17

THIS WEEK we have a project scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday that involves removing and replacing a double hung window and covering two bedroom ceilings and a partial wall with luan paneling. None of this work is heavy and we have three volunteers already, but this project involves a family with 8 kids that really need to see God at work in their home.

PLEASE call Ross at 1-724-866-4858 to let him know you can help and to get directions to this project on Oil City’s South Side. We can use many hands for this light work😇.

NEXT WEEK please check your calendars and mark some time to help an outside mission group give us a lift at the shelter in Franklin. Although the 3rd floor shelter is now completed, there are two empty apartments on the second floor that need a little “spiffing up” so the income can be used to support the ongoing operations of the shelter. Although the visiting mission group will be doing a lot of the work, our mission volunteers need to be on hand to help them locate tools and supplies. This should be a very productive and fun project. Please give Ross a call if you can squeeze in some time next week.

Home Repair Update for this week (5/8/17 – 5/13/17)

County Referrals – No new home repair referrals have been received this week, so we will be wrapping-up some we started last week and doing 2 inspections.

If its been a while since you volunteered for a project, please consider calling Ross today at (724)-866-4858 because his schedule this week is filling up very fast and he could really use your help. And, my whole month is chaos as my daughter is due in a couple of weeks so Jo and I will be traveling to Virginia AND our house just sold so we will be packing up and moving, too. HEEEELLLLPP!! Please volunteer by calling Ross to see where your talents and time can be put to use as the Hands and Feet of God in Venango County.

God bless,

Paul Sallade

Home Repair Update for 4/24/17 – 4/28/17

County Referrals – With Easter behind us and Liberty Street’s 3rd floor essentially complete, we are scheduling several county referral projects for Tuesday, Thursday and Friday this week. Ross will be leading several projects as will I, so if you have any time available on those 3 days, please give either of us a call to find out what project(s) we will be working on that day or time*. Examples include the following: floor repairs, measuring for replacement windows, vinyl siding repair, replacing a deadbolt, replacing a gas water heater with an electric water heater, installing 2 grab bars, modifying an exterior door threshold, and adding a spigot on a 1/2″ CPVC water line.

I know we can find a worthy project that you can easily undertake, so please – give one of us a call and we will help you determine where God can use your as His Hands and Feet in service to our brothers and sisters in Venango County.

*Saturday projects can also be arranged. Just let us know when you will be available and we will do our best to arrange an appropriate Saturday project for you or your group.

In Christ,

Home Repair Update for this week (4/3/17 – 4/7/17)

County Referrals – If you are available on Wednesday or Thursday this week, please let me know if you can help a Franklin woman who needs a kitchen floor patched, a small incline installed ( it is only 3″ high by 30″ long and is already built), and 3 windows either repaired or replaced. Two additional volunteers would be ideal to make these projects go quickly, so if there is a team that works well together and can give me a hand, please give me a call early so I can make an appointment with this client.

The Haven – We expect to have work on the third floor done this week and have scheduled Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9-4. In anticipation of its completion, Ross has asked me to invite everyone to an Third Floor Open House on Sunday April 9th from 2-4. Those volunteers who saw the third floor early on will be amazed at the progress, and those of you who haven’t seen it yet will be blown away with the work that has been done, but I warn you – there are 42 steps to the third floor and no elevator. Hope to see you there!!

Home Repair Update for this week (3/27/17 – 3/31/17)

County Referrals – Two projects are scheduled for this week* and volunteers are already lined up for both. But keep us in your prayers ( another vital volunteer function, the importance of which cannot be overstated).

The Haven – We will again be open for volunteers at 1269 Liberty Street in Franklin on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9-4 daily. The big jobs are mostly done, but the finishing touches are taking a little longer than anticipated. An area for a communal washer/dryer was added recently by the county, so work on that “closet” remains.

Paul Sallade

*One project is on Grandview Road in Oil City where we will install two handrails. The second project is just a little south of Titusville where we will replace a few rotted boards on a porch and seal some windows and doors. Please pray for our safety and for developing a great relationship with these clients.

Home Repair Update 3/13/17 – 3/18/17

Haven – We will again be open for volunteers at 1269 Liberty Street in Franklin on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9-4 daily and on Saturday the 18th* from 9-2. Although volunteer participation in February and March has been a little lighter than we had hoped, a totally awesome group of SIX volunteers turned out yesterday. They really kept Ross hopping and they completed a lot of work while having a great time. God Bless Our Volunteers!!

County Referrals – Still no emergencies and the cold weather has put the brakes on any outside work for now. But stand by your phones because I am taking a sabbatical from the Haven and will be focusing exclusively on County Referrals instead. I will try to line up volunteers as needed by calling you directly for help. Mustard Seed Volunteers are the BEST!!

*No work is scheduled for the last Saturday in March (the 25th) because a volunteer group is working the next day (Sunday the 26th) and we hesitated to ask our project leaders to work on both Saturday and Sunday that weekend. So if you were counting on working one of the Saturdays in Feb, and Mar., the 18th is your last opportunity. Hope to see you then.

Home Repair Update as of 2-3-17

Saturdays during February and March – Team leaders will be at the Haven (1269 Liberty Street, Franklin) each Saturday from 9:00 until 2:00 to help volunteers wrap up some very important last minute items in apartments 2 and 3. This is a golden opportunity for those volunteers who are working during the week to carve out a few hours on Saturday to help the homeless in Venango County. And, if your Sunday School Class or Bible Study group would like to “adopt” a specific job or donate a Saturday, please call Ross Kilian (724-866-4858) to learn what work is available for any given Saturday.

NEXT WEEK (02/06 – 02/11):

Haven @ 1269 Liberty St., Franklin – On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we will be wrapping up some painting, as well as installing ceiling tiles and ceiling fans. If you can help, please give Greg Blair a call at his home 1-814-432-5598.

County Referrals – On Thursday, we need help patching a 4’X8″ section of sub-floor in a mobile home and laying a 3′ incline from a doorway to a deck. If you can help, please call Paul Sallade at 814-516-5341.

Yours in Christ,

Paul Sallade and Ross Kilian

Home Repair Update for 1/30/17 – 2/04/17

Homeless Shelter – On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we will be wrapping-up some painting as well as installing ceiling tiles and ceiling fans. If you can help, please give Greg Blair a call at his home 1-814-432-5598.

Tyler Carbaugh’s Addition received its final inspection last week and Tyler’s family is starting to move him into his new digs. God is Good!  A heartfelt “THANKS” to the many volunteers who made this possible for Tyler through your sacrifice of time and talents. You truly are the hands and feet of God in Venango County😇.

County Referrals – Volunteers started work on a walk-in shower/floor repair last week, but the bathroom is so small we cannot cram any additional volunteers into it. However, we have a backlog of projects waiting in the wings. More to come as more work is scheduled.

Home Repair Update as of 8/26/16

County Referrals – We received 3 new referrals this week and are in the process of assessing our ability to do the requested work. Once we get these projects scheduled we will let you know the scope of each and ask for volunteers, but for right now we are mostly caught up with our Home Repair requests.

Homeless Shelter – Work has been moving very quickly and new volunteers have been extremely helpful. In spite of the heat and 42 steps to the third floor, volunteers keep showing up to pitch in on this exciting project. In fact, we have decided to give our volunteers some well-deserved time off in celebration of the upcoming Labor Day weekend. Please mark your calendars as follows:

Fri. Aug. 26 – No work scheduled
Sat. Aug. 27 – Special workday for those who cannot volunteer during the week
Mon. Aug.29 – Workday 8:00-4:00
Tue. Aug. 30 – Workday 8:00-4:00

Wed. Aug. 31 thru Mon. Sep 5 – No workdays scheduled!!

Tue. Sep. 6 – Work resumes in earnest. Watch for additional Home Repair Updates.

Note: I simply cannot believe the transformation that has occurred in just 30 days. Our volunteers are upgrading a formerly empty and neglected third floor into a clean and comfortable shelter for some of God’s children (who happen to be homeless). These volunteers truly are “the hands and feet of God”, and what a blessing it is to be part of this team.

Work on Homeless Shelter Week of 7/25/16

UPDATE ON WORK SCHEDULE (as of 7/28/16)

Just a quick note to let you know there will be no work at the Homeless Shelter at 1269 Liberty Street this Friday afternoon nor on Saturday.

Instead, on Friday afternoon from 1:00-4:00 PM we need a couple volunteers to help deliver Household Goods  We have also been asked to pick up some Household Goods being donated. We have a good furniture dolly and none of the goods look too heavy (with the exception of a lift chair).

On Monday next week, contractors begin installation of the sprinkler system, but we expect to continue work on many small jobs (patching cracks and filling holes in walls: hanging/mudding drywall in 2 rooms; replacing missing spindles in the stairway; etc.).  Come join in the excitement! Tons of work has already been done, but many items still need your help.

Please feel free to call Ross Kilian at his cell phone (1-724-866-4858) if you have questions about what specific jobs are planned for any given day.

Yours in Christ,
Paul Sallade

To the Hands and Feet of God in Venango County,

Work on the Homeless Shelter at 1269 Liberty Street, Franklin began in earnest on Monday and will continue daily through next week under the direction of Ross Kilian and Dave Betts. With help from many volunteers from the Oakland United Methodist Church, tons of work has been done so far, but lots more remains before we can turn it over to electricians for re-wiring and plumbers for the sprinkler system. We need your help in hanging drywall, scraping wallpaper, installing suspended ceilings, and many more handyman projects.

If you can help, please stop by – even if only for a few hours. We expect to continue this week and next from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM each day, and even expect to work this Saturday so that those of you who work during the week can help for at least a couple hours . . . or just stop by to see what’s happening. We have most of the tools and supplies we need, but feel free to bring your tool belt along. We would love to have your help?.

Please feel free to contact Ross Kilian at his cell phone (1-724-866-4858) if you have any questions about what specific jobs are being done on any given day.

Yours in Christ,
Paul Sallade

PS: Don’t call Paul Sallade as he has been off all this week visiting with 2 new grandchildren ages 5 and 9 months? and their parents.
