Home Repair Update for this week (10/15/2018 – 10/20/2018)

Having just completed several larger projects, we decided to focus this week on catching up on important work that had to be temporarily “sidelined”. So for this week, our efforts will be on smaller but essential jobs such as collecting flooring that has been donated by two different individuals and moving it to our storage/warehouse facility in Seneca. In addition, we need to rearrange materials in storage to better utilize that space and possibly build more shelving. Finally, as we completed those larger projects, some tools and materials were put into our tool trailer rather quickly, necessitating a “spring cleaning” to get the tool trailer put back into tip-top shape.

This week may be an excellent opportunity for volunteers to get involved in smaller projects whereby a couple of hours work will actually allow you to see a job get fully completed! You may also satisfy your curiosity about how we are utilizing our new storage/warehouse facility at the former Cranberry High School.

We plan to work on Monday through Thursday this week starting at 9:00 each day for as long as we have volunteers. Please call Ross Kilian at 724-866-4858 or Paul Sallade at 814-516-5341 to find out what is happening each day.

Yours in Christ,

Ross and Paul

Rice project postponed (see previous post)

Due to the 90 percent chance of rain now forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, Ross has postponed the project until Thursday and Friday. Please call Ross at 724-866-4858 if you can help on those days.  Thanks for being flexible for this weather delay

PS: Tuesday’s project in Clintonville will go on as scheduled as it is all inside work.

Home Repair Update for this week (9/24/18 – 9/28/18)

We have two projects scheduled for this week as follows:

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we will be returning to Ken and Judy Rice’s home at 1318 Horsecreek Road, Seneca to provide a second means of egress by installing an exterior door to their deck, replacing the old doorway with a window, adding insulation to that outside wall, replacing the decking and stairs to the deck and some minor electrical work. This work is essential to ensure their safety in the event of a fire or other emergency.  We have established a wonderful relationship with this family and hope you can give Ross a call at 724-866-4858 to volunteer for this rewarding opportunity.

Also on Tuesday, we will be returning to Clintonville to finish repairs to a bedroom floor and to replace the bedroom carpet. We already have a volunteer crew already in place, but you can help by praying for the family and for our safe completion of the job.

Paul Sallade

Home Repair Update for this week (9/17/18 – 9/21/18)

On Tuesday and Wednesday we will be working on fascia repairs on a one story home starting at 9:00 AM. As was the case last week, the work is not very high, but we really need help on the ground with measuring, cutting and setting up ladders. It probably won’t take 2 full days, but that depends on the weather.

The house is at 563 Sugarcreek Drive, Franklin. The scenery is beautiful, and the “work” will actually be “FUN”. If you are free to help, please call Ross at 724-866-4858 to let him know you are available.

Your in Christ,

Paul Sallade

Home Repair Update for this week (9/10/2018 – 9/14/2018)

If it ever stops raining, we will be working Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and possibly Friday to install gutters, downspouts and repair fascia boards on a ONE STORY house, so we won’t be very high. In fact, we really need help on the ground with measuring, cutting, assembling, pop riveting and gluing, etc. on the ground.

The family’s insurance company is requiring this work to be done as a condition of continuing insurance coverage, so our help is essential for them to remain in their home at 29235 Wheeling Hill Road, Utica. Please call Ross a 724-866-4858 if you can help, even if only for few hours.

PS: I personally want to thank Ross for not scheduling this work during last week’s 90 degree weather – YEAH ROSS !!

Yours in Christ,
Paul Sallade

Home Repair Update for this week (8/27/2018 – 8/31/2018)

We have one project scheduled  for this week as follows:

On Tuesday, Wednesday ad Thursday we will be repairing 3 areas of flooring in a mobile home at 115 Village Acre Road in Clintonville. The largest area is in the kitchen, which is in good repair but needs a new layer of subflooring to add strength. However, in both the hallway and the bathroom the subfloor needs to be lifted and replaced due to water damage. Please call Ross at 724-866-4858 if you can help even for a few hours on this project.

Home Repair Update for this week (8/13/2018 – 8/17/2018)

We have two projects scheduled for this week as follows:

On Tuesday and Wednesday we will be finishing up some plaster repairs, painting and minor plumbing work for Chester, Billie and Nathan Sakalousky at 14 Clearfield Street in Oil City. Work will start at 9:00 AM both days. There isn’t a lot of work to do on the walls, but If you have a flare for mudding repaired plaster, your help would be especially appreciated. Please call Ross at 724-866-4958 if you can help with this project.

On Thursday we will be finishing up the bathroom door, some trim work and some painting at Ken & Judy Rice’s home at 1318 Horsecreek Road, Seneca. Work begins at 9:30 AM and should not require a full workday to complete. Again, please call Ross at 724-866-4858 if you can help.

Note: We received 6 new referrals just this week, so if you have been thinking about getting a little more involved in Home Repair projects, now may be the time to jump in and test the waters😇,

Yours in Christ,

Paul Sallade

Home Repair Update for this week (8/6/2018 – 8/11/2018)

Thanks to everyone who helped consolidate much of our inventory into the former Cranberry High School. After a day of preparation at the former school and 3 days of consolidation, volunteers emptied 3 of our outlying storage units into the more centralized location so that all beds and appliances are now located at one location. Praise God for our volunteers and for 7 volunteers on Saturday who needed to earn Community Service hours.

This week’s project is at the home of Chester and Billie Sakalousky at 14 Clearfield Street in Oil City. Their son, Nathan, has been dealing with leukemia and has asked for our help in repairing a loose panel in the tub/shower surround, plaster/drywall patching, framing-in the attic access, securing the bathroom vanity and adding a drain plug in the sink. We also want to repair loose soffit on one side of the house. Work will start at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, Wednesday and if necessary, Thursday. Please call Ross at 724-866-4858 if you can help.

Home Repair Update for this week (7/30/2018 – 8/4/2018)

This Saturday (8/04/2018) we begin the big push to move beds, furniture, appliances and other materials from our current 7 storage locations to our new space at the old Cranberry High School in Seneca. We chose a Saturday so even our volunteers who are still working during the week can participate – and we need all the help we can get =:)

Work will begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church at 215 E. Bissell Ave. in Oil City where we will empty all bed frames from the garage and Sunday School rooms. (Once you turn off E. Bissell Ave. onto Vo Teck Drive, make the first right turn into the lower parking lot by the free-standing garage). We have also solicited help from the Church’s Scout Troop and the Youth Group at Oil City’s Church of the Nazarene, but really need help from all our MSM volunteers as well – – – because once all beds are moved to Cranberry, we will begin to move items from our 6 other locations to Cranberry. THIS IS A BIG MOVING DAY and will happen rain or shine because enclosed trailers will be used in this move.

But even before Saturday, we need volunteers on Thursday and Friday to clean rooms, build shelving and otherwise prepare the new storage areas in the former Cranberry High School. Work will begin at 9:00 AM on both days to ensure it is ready to accept materials on Saturday.

Please call Ross Kilian at 724-866-4858 or Paul Sallade at 814-516-5341 if you have any questions.

Yours in Christ,
Paul and Ross

Home Repair Update for 7/10/17 – 7/15/17

THIS WEEK we have a project scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday that involves removing and replacing a double hung window and covering two bedroom ceilings and a partial wall with luan paneling. None of this work is heavy and we have three volunteers already, but this project involves a family with 8 kids that really need to see God at work in their home.

PLEASE call Ross at 1-724-866-4858 to let him know you can help and to get directions to this project on Oil City’s South Side. We can use many hands for this light work😇.

NEXT WEEK please check your calendars and mark some time to help an outside mission group give us a lift at the shelter in Franklin. Although the 3rd floor shelter is now completed, there are two empty apartments on the second floor that need a little “spiffing up” so the income can be used to support the ongoing operations of the shelter. Although the visiting mission group will be doing a lot of the work, our mission volunteers need to be on hand to help them locate tools and supplies. This should be a very productive and fun project. Please give Ross a call if you can squeeze in some time next week.

Paul Sallade
