Project Update

Our MSM Board Has approved our participation in a home repair project that falls outside our Human Services Dept. referral system. Here is a brief background:

A group of approximately 6 businesses and several churches asked MSM if we could help them  assist a young mother and her two children as part of a community effort.

Eric Lendrum, his wife Abby and their children moved into a home at 182 Glenview Ave in Oil City that needed some updating which Eric planned to do himself. But after a courageous battle with cancer, Eric died at age 27 on Feb. 9, 2019.

Chad Snyder of Snyder Electric has agreed to lead professional trades and volunteers in making sure Abby’s home is safe, warm, and dry.

Although work is not yet scheduled to begin, we wanted to give you a heads up on the project and pray that you can help this family get a hot water tank and a furnace installed and badly needed updates to their kitchen and bath areas.

You will love this family and your reward will be eternal. Watch for updates as work is scheduled.

Yours in Christ,

Paul and Ross

Home Repair Update for this week (3/25/19 – 3/29/19)

We will also organize our paint room. On Wednesday and perhaps Thursday we plan to repair a set of porch steps and add handrails in Rouseville. FINALLY we get to work outside!!

If you can help on Tuesday, just show up at the garage door across the street from the Seneca Post Office anytime after 9:30 AM. On Wednesday and Thursday, Ross will be leading the crew so call him at 724-866-4858 to get the address and to let him know how many helpers he can count on.

God Bless all our volunteers,

Paul and Ross

Home Repair Update for this week (3/18/2019 to 3/22/2019)

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we will again be working in the warehouse at the former Cranberry High School beginning at 9:31 AM each day. Volunteers will be sorting through donated tools and supplies, then re-arranging them on shelving we will be building using cement blocks and long boards. And this area is now comfortably heated!!

Special Note: Although nearly 100 volunteers receive this email or phone call, the same four volunteers have responded in each of the past 3 weeks. They are a great group and they are still having a lot of fun, but are eager to spread the JOY among other volunteers rather than hogging it all up themselves. So . . . if you have some free time this week – please call Ross Kilian at 724-866-4858 or Paul Sallade at 814-516-5341.

Yours in Christ,

Paul ad Ross

PS: There are MANY doors in this very large building. This week, we are using the double glass doors on the side facing the parking lot used by school busses.

Home Repair Update for 1/28/2019 to 2/1/2019

WOW!! The gang moved at light-speed last week to finish the room enclosure at the warehouse. We now have a fully insulated and heated “warm room” that will keep our paint and washing machine pumps from freezing. And this week’s weather report indicates that was just in the nick of time!

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week our crew will continue work on the bathroom at 119 East Bissell Avenue in Oil City. No additional volunteers are needed at this point, but if you have cabin fever and need to get out to keep your sanity, call Ross at 724-866-4858 to see if he can use you.

Paul Sallade

Home Repair Update for this week 1/14/2019 to 1/18/2019

Work is moving along quickly at both projects we started last week.

Monday at 9:00 we will resume building our inside-heated room at the Warehouse in Seneca. Walls and ceiling joists are up, so installing OSB panels, electric outlets/wiring, doors and windows can begin. All skill levels can be put to good use.

The second project at 119 East Bissell Avenue in Oil City is also moving along quickly. On Monday we will be putting final coats of mud on the plasterboard and installing ceiling molding. Then on Tuesday it should be ready for light sanding and a coat of primer. Setting the commode and vanity will begin one the new linoleum is down.

Weather permitting, we have a set of porch steps in Rouseville that need new 4X4 posts and handrails. We are looking for a warm day!! It shouldn’t take long for a small team, but we do need to pick a warmer day.

I have been struggling with bronchitis, so have been of no help. But the response from others has lifted my spirits! Please call Ross at 724-866-4858 if you can help or have any questions.

Paul Sallade

Home Repair Update for this week 01/07/19 to 01/11/19

We hope you have had a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year!! Hopefully, our volunteers are ready to get back to work. . .

We have only 2 projects, but they are both pretty substantial and will take many hands.

The first is at 119 East Bissell Ave. in Oil City. Our job is to take a partially renovated bathroom that is unusable and bring it up to a point where the sink, shower and toilet are functional. We will start at 9:00 Tuesday morning and probably cannot use more than 4 volunteers at any one time due to the small space involved.

The second project involves enclosing part of a large unheated room at our warehouse in Seneca to provide a heated area for storage of paint and washing machines which must be protected from freezing. This will involve building and insulating both the walls and a ceiling, and can utilize many volunteers.

If you can help on either of these projects, please call Ross Kilian at 724-866-4858 or me at 814-516-5341. Both skilled and unskilled volunteers are needed.

Yours in Christ,

Paul Sallade

Home Repair Update for this week (10/15/2018 – 10/20/2018)

Having just completed several larger projects, we decided to focus this week on catching up on important work that had to be temporarily “sidelined”. So for this week, our efforts will be on smaller but essential jobs such as collecting flooring that has been donated by two different individuals and moving it to our storage/warehouse facility in Seneca. In addition, we need to rearrange materials in storage to better utilize that space and possibly build more shelving. Finally, as we completed those larger projects, some tools and materials were put into our tool trailer rather quickly, necessitating a “spring cleaning” to get the tool trailer put back into tip-top shape.

This week may be an excellent opportunity for volunteers to get involved in smaller projects whereby a couple of hours work will actually allow you to see a job get fully completed! You may also satisfy your curiosity about how we are utilizing our new storage/warehouse facility at the former Cranberry High School.

We plan to work on Monday through Thursday this week starting at 9:00 each day for as long as we have volunteers. Please call Ross Kilian at 724-866-4858 or Paul Sallade at 814-516-5341 to find out what is happening each day.

Yours in Christ,

Ross and Paul
