Home Repair Update for 1/28/2019 to 2/1/2019

WOW!! The gang moved at light-speed last week to finish the room enclosure at the warehouse. We now have a fully insulated and heated “warm room” that will keep our paint and washing machine pumps from freezing. And this week’s weather report indicates that was just in the nick of time!

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week our crew will continue work on the bathroom at 119 East Bissell Avenue in Oil City. No additional volunteers are needed at this point, but if you have cabin fever and need to get out to keep your sanity, call Ross at 724-866-4858 to see if he can use you.

Home Repair Update for this week 1/14/2019 to 1/18/2019

Work is moving along quickly at both projects we started last week.

Monday at 9:00 we will resume building our inside-heated room at the Warehouse in Seneca. Walls and ceiling joists are up, so installing OSB panels, electric outlets/wiring, doors and windows can begin. All skill levels can be put to good use.

The second project at 119 East Bissell Avenue in Oil City is also moving along quickly. On Monday we will be putting final coats of mud on the plasterboard and installing ceiling molding. Then on Tuesday it should be ready for light sanding and a coat of primer. Setting the commode and vanity will begin one the new linoleum is down.

Weather permitting, we have a set of porch steps in Rouseville that need new 4X4 posts and handrails. We are looking for a warm day!! It shouldn’t take long for a small team, but we do need to pick a warmer day.

I have been struggling with bronchitis, so have been of no help. But the response from others has lifted my spirits! Please call Ross at 724-866-4858 if you can help or have any questions.

Paul Sallade

Home Repair Update for this week 01/07/19 to 01/11/19

We hope you have had a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year!! Hopefully, our volunteers are ready to get back to work. . .

We have only 2 projects, but they are both pretty substantial and will take many hands.

The first is at 119 East Bissell Ave. in Oil City. Our job is to take a partially renovated bathroom that is unusable and bring it up to a point where the sink, shower and toilet are functional. We will start at 9:00 Tuesday morning and probably cannot use more than 4 volunteers at any one time due to the small space involved.

The second project involves enclosing part of a large unheated room at our warehouse in Seneca to provide a heated area for storage of paint and washing machines which must be protected from freezing. This will involve building and insulating both the walls and a ceiling, and can utilize many volunteers.

If you can help on either of these projects, please call Ross Kilian at 724-866-4858 or me at 814-516-5341. Both skilled and unskilled volunteers are needed.

Yours in Christ,

Paul Sallade

Home Repair Update for this week (10/15/2018 – 10/20/2018)

Having just completed several larger projects, we decided to focus this week on catching up on important work that had to be temporarily “sidelined”. So for this week, our efforts will be on smaller but essential jobs such as collecting flooring that has been donated by two different individuals and moving it to our storage/warehouse facility in Seneca. In addition, we need to rearrange materials in storage to better utilize that space and possibly build more shelving. Finally, as we completed those larger projects, some tools and materials were put into our tool trailer rather quickly, necessitating a “spring cleaning” to get the tool trailer put back into tip-top shape.

This week may be an excellent opportunity for volunteers to get involved in smaller projects whereby a couple of hours work will actually allow you to see a job get fully completed! You may also satisfy your curiosity about how we are utilizing our new storage/warehouse facility at the former Cranberry High School.

We plan to work on Monday through Thursday this week starting at 9:00 each day for as long as we have volunteers. Please call Ross Kilian at 724-866-4858 or Paul Sallade at 814-516-5341 to find out what is happening each day.

Yours in Christ,

Ross and Paul

Rice project postponed (see previous post)

Due to the 90 percent chance of rain now forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, Ross has postponed the project until Thursday and Friday. Please call Ross at 724-866-4858 if you can help on those days.  Thanks for being flexible for this weather delay

PS: Tuesday’s project in Clintonville will go on as scheduled as it is all inside work.

Home Repair Update for this week (9/24/18 – 9/28/18)

We have two projects scheduled for this week as follows:

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we will be returning to Ken and Judy Rice’s home at 1318 Horsecreek Road, Seneca to provide a second means of egress by installing an exterior door to their deck, replacing the old doorway with a window, adding insulation to that outside wall, replacing the decking and stairs to the deck and some minor electrical work. This work is essential to ensure their safety in the event of a fire or other emergency.  We have established a wonderful relationship with this family and hope you can give Ross a call at 724-866-4858 to volunteer for this rewarding opportunity.

Also on Tuesday, we will be returning to Clintonville to finish repairs to a bedroom floor and to replace the bedroom carpet. We already have a volunteer crew already in place, but you can help by praying for the family and for our safe completion of the job.

Home Repair Update for this week (9/17/18 – 9/21/18)

On Tuesday and Wednesday we will be working on fascia repairs on a one story home starting at 9:00 AM. As was the case last week, the work is not very high, but we really need help on the ground with measuring, cutting and setting up ladders. It probably won’t take 2 full days, but that depends on the weather.

The house is at 563 Sugarcreek Drive, Franklin. The scenery is beautiful, and the “work” will actually be “FUN”. If you are free to help, please call Ross at 724-866-4858 to let him know you are available.

Your in Christ,

Paul Sallade

Home Repair Update for this week (9/10/2018 – 9/14/2018)

If it ever stops raining, we will be working Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and possibly Friday to install gutters, downspouts and repair fascia boards on a ONE STORY house, so we won’t be very high. In fact, we really need help on the ground with measuring, cutting, assembling, pop riveting and gluing, etc. on the ground.

The family’s insurance company is requiring this work to be done as a condition of continuing insurance coverage, so our help is essential for them to remain in their home at 29235 Wheeling Hill Road, Utica. Please call Ross a 724-866-4858 if you can help, even if only for few hours.

PS: I personally want to thank Ross for not scheduling this work during last week’s 90 degree weather – YEAH ROSS !!

Yours in Christ,
Paul Sallade

Home Repair Update for this week (8/27/2018 – 8/31/2018)

We have one project scheduled  for this week as follows:

On Tuesday, Wednesday ad Thursday we will be repairing 3 areas of flooring in a mobile home at 115 Village Acre Road in Clintonville. The largest area is in the kitchen, which is in good repair but needs a new layer of subflooring to add strength. However, in both the hallway and the bathroom the subfloor needs to be lifted and replaced due to water damage. Please call Ross at 724-866-4858 if you can help even for a few hours on this project.

Home Repair Update for this week (8/13/2018 – 8/17/2018)

We have two projects scheduled for this week as follows:

On Tuesday and Wednesday we will be finishing up some plaster repairs, painting and minor plumbing work for Chester, Billie and Nathan Sakalousky at 14 Clearfield Street in Oil City. Work will start at 9:00 AM both days. There isn’t a lot of work to do on the walls, but If you have a flare for mudding repaired plaster, your help would be especially appreciated. Please call Ross at 724-866-4958 if you can help with this project.

On Thursday we will be finishing up the bathroom door, some trim work and some painting at Ken & Judy Rice’s home at 1318 Horsecreek Road, Seneca. Work begins at 9:30 AM and should not require a full workday to complete. Again, please call Ross at 724-866-4858 if you can help.

Note: We received 6 new referrals just this week, so if you have been thinking about getting a little more involved in Home Repair projects, now may be the time to jump in and test the waters😇,

Yours in Christ,

Paul Sallade
