Mustard Seed Missions is a cooperative effort between local churches throughout Venango County and the Venango County Department of Human Services to provide meaningful help and the opportunity for spiritual support while meeting needs in any of three areas: doing home repairs and ramp installations for homeowners making their homes safe, warm, and dry; furnishing beds or other household goods based on need; and by providing rides to medical appointments outside the County.
How this works: a County caseworker assesses and determines if there is a need to make a home safe, warm, or dry for families/individuals who are currently receiving services through any Venango County Human Services Department; i.e. Older Adult Services, Children and Youth Services, Substance Abuse Program, Transportation, etc.
Once a determination is made, a request is submitted to the County and, if approved, a referral is then sent to Mustard Seed Missions. Once the work is completed, the family is referred to a local church for spiritual support.
If someone is not active in the above services through the County Human Services Department but has a need, they should call the Human Services Department at 814-432-9100 to see if they are eligible for services.
Clarification on Procedures
While Mustard Seed Missions would like to help everyone with a need, our organization does not have the manpower nor the financial resources to do so at this time. The County reimburses MSM for approved home repair materials. Financial support from churches and individuals help to provide household goods as well as enable the hiring of part-time staff to manage the administration and contracting responsibilities.
Currently we are getting calls from churches/people that know of needs for people who do not have an open case with the County and are therefore not covered. We realize there are some needs that fall through the cracks of service and we want to hear God’s will on what God is calling us to do. Please pray with us for wisdom as the Board determines policy on these cases and tries to raise funds from the churches that will support a broadened outreach for Mustard Seed Missions.
